Jen Squat 2At Evolution Fitness and Tucson Barbell Club our motto is "TRAIN WITH PURPOSE". There can be many purposes to one's training, but this article written by Mark Rippetoe really breaks down the difference. Are you looking to come and just sweat off some calories or do you have longer term goal you are looking to achieve? It doesn't matter if you run, Crossfit, or lift free weights, the distinciton lies in the goal... Nothing is wrong with exercising, but having the mental attitude of training for something greater really allows for more success with your program..Read this article for a great breakdown....
In the world of strength there are many philosophies and routes to take. Which program is the best? Wendlers 5/3/1, Smolov? the Cube? Westside?  I guarantee you one thing. The second someone mentions one as the best method you will have an equal or greater amount of haters explain why _________ program sucks. The truth is many of them have a place in training and many people respond differently to different programs. I am realizing it is less about a program and following certain percentages and more about following a guiding philosophy. I hear lots of lifters more experienced than myself talk about this and I guess I finally just understand it. I Recently I saw a forum post somewhere in which guys were talking trash on speed work and strength training. The conversation was comical on how personal each internet warrior felt like thier way was the only and best way. The conversation got really heated, especially when someone started talking about Crossfit for strength.  I want to share a bit of my experience in using the the Base Building philosophy laid out in the book by Paul Carter.
Tucson Barbell Club Weightlifting Team had a great day at the Iron Athlete Weightlifting Open at East Valley Crossfit. It was an action packed day with lifters from all over the state attending. Our lifters had a great day.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnDWM3AtVu0
