We are very excited to announce that Sr. SFG Jeremy Layport will be joining the Evolution Fitness Team. Jeremy's background is extensive and it ranges from an in depth knowledge of corrective exercise, kettlebell training, strength and conditioining, and the barbell sports! He will be heading here from the California Bay Area and will start with us officially the the last week of September. Expect to see him teaching many of the classes at Evolution and bringing some amazing energy and knowledge. As always I know our community will welcome him and make him feel right at home..

 

We are looking forward to competing in the NASA Powerlifting Meet on November 9th. We have been training diligently as a team and are getting ready to start to peak our training. We may have up to 12 lifters compete in Mesa. The best thing about this is nearly every person that is in our barbell club started training in our regular kettlbell classes. They didn't sign up at Evolution Fitness to become powerlifters. Many are engineers, accountants, and teachers that never touched a barbell or a weight prior to signing up. After a short time of training with us they truely found the magic of what strength has to offer. The best thing about strength is when you start to feel it, you want more. Though we aren't knows as a powerlifting gym, I am sure happy to coach a bunch of committed to the continual pursuit of strength.
At Evolution Fitness Call ourselves the school of Strength, and we mean it. We get asked all the time why we don't do Crossfit? Or if we are a Crossfit Gym. The answer is a definite NO. I don't hate Crossfit nor go out of my way to trash talk it, but bottom line it doesn't fit in my philosophy of working on form, technique, and better human movement as a platform for success. Intensity is fine if all other factors are in alignment. We love the Olympic and Power Lifts at Evolution Fitness and Tucson Barbell Club, but we are also very aware that training these lifts for time with high intensity has very little carry over to overall strength, athleticism, and fitness.  This article by the Daily Dot really hits many of the main factors on the head of why we don't do Crossfit at Evolution Fitness Tucson.  READ MORE...
